Starting salaries vary, expect to be earning anything from around £22,500 to £26,000.
A 2.1 degree grade and an I.T related degree is generally preferred. Proven software engineering and development skills such as Java, HTML, Haskell, Python, Perl 5, XML, Oracle, Linux and Unix. Is also desirable if you choose to go down the technical route. However, some roles are project management focused so a business-related degree may be needed.
In areas of telecoms relating to hardware and devices, a physics degree or electronic engineering degree will be essential. Many companies seek graduates with previous experience, which can be gained through work internships.
As a lot of the work in this industry is project- based, recruiters seek graduates who can offer skills such as communication, problem solving, teamwork and commercial awareness.
You are expected to provide evidence of these skills so make sure you have them when you are applying and be prepared to elaborate on these skills at the job interview.
If you don?t have many skills that relate to telecommunications, you can gain them by doing an internship. Many companies offer internships to students therefore providing training that will be useful for new graduate recruits.
