Graduate vacancies in motoring

The motor industry is not only for people who are no good at school, an industry insider has said.

A spokesperson for the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) said there were plenty of opportunities for graduates.

The motoring industry is responsible for two per cent of gross domestic product and is training about 20,000 apprentices - when many industries are making cutbacks, especially financial firms.

Motoring employs 600,000 people and has a turnover of more than £70 billion a year, according to the IMI.

"For those people that choose to continue on through school and higher education, the motor industry has positions for them as well," a spokesperson for the IMI said.

"It's not just for people that aren't necessarily good at school."

He said that lots of different skills were needed in the sector and recruits were able to join the industry after higher education.
