Green jobs boom

Green graduate jobs are expected to boom on the back of environmentally-friendly, cost-cutting initiatives implemented by businesses during the credit crunch.

British Eco Energy foresaw more people turning to renewable energy to reduce bills during the economic crisis.

This means more companies may have to employ specialists to provide energy advice and carry out green measures.

Director of British Eco Energy Andrew Moore said: "There's quite a lot of focus on renewables at the moment, even if it's just from an economic point of view, trying to reduce energy bills which have gone up a lot."

Renewable energy accounted for five per cent of the electricity generated in the UK in 2007, up from 4.5 per cent the previous year, according to the Department for Business Enterprise.

The Committee on Climate Change has urged to government to commit to reducing all greenhouse gas emissions in the UK by at least 34 per cent in 2020 relative to 1990 levels.
