13m people 'plan to change careers'
There have been "radical" changes to the modern career journey, with a large proportion of people planning to switch jobs at some point in their lives, research has found.
The Career Evolution report, produced by Friends Provident and The Future Laboratory, has discovered that 13 million workers plan to change their occupation, or the profession that they originally trained for, at least twice in their careers.
Of those who stated they would switch careers, 27 per cent claimed the motivation to do so would be the need for a new challenge, while 24 per cent said it would be the desire for a higher salary.
Martin Palmer, the head of corporate pensions marketing at Friends Provident, remarked that there is a more "fluid" approach to careers in modern times.
This may suggest that university leavers are not restricted solely to graduate jobs related to their degree subject.
Meanwhile, first minister for communications, technology and broadcasting Lord Stephen Carter has said that there will be future opportunities in the digital and communications sectors.
