Scotland 'to create 16,000 green energy jobs'
Plans to create thousands of roles in the green energy industry have been announced by the government in Scotland, something that could boost graduate recruitment in the country.
Ministers have unveiled proposals to open up numerous positions in energy efficiency, power generation and transport by 2010.
It comes as part of the economic recovery package that has been outlined for the country, as well as boosting its fight against climate change.
John Swinney, the cabinet secretary for finance and sustainable growth, said that the government must "pursue every available opportunity to create wealth".
He added: "Today, we are laying the foundations for economic success by investing in Scotland's natural capital and world-leading skills base for a greener future."
An estimated 16,000 jobs will be generated by the move over the next ten years.
It comes following comments from Professor Paul Elkins of King's College London, who claimed that growth in the economy can be supported by investing in green initiatives that tackle climate change.
