British Gas 'to create 1,500 jobs'
British Gas has announced its intentions to generate over a thousand skilled positions in the coming year, something that may provide an opportunity for those seeking graduate jobs.
It came as the energy provider unveiled a "good" financial performance for 2008, despite challenging economic conditions.
Sam Laidlaw, chief executive of Centrica - British Gas' parent organisation - hailed the structural and operational progress that the company has made and revealed that it intends to open up numerous jobs in the eco-friendly power sector.
"Looking forward, we plan to create around 1,500 new skilled, mainly 'green collar', roles across British Gas to help meet our customers' desire to make their homes more energy efficient," he commented.
In related news recently, the Scottish government announced plans to boost employment in the green energy sector, with thousands of positions being created in the areas of energy efficiency, power generation and transport by 2020.
