Graduate jobs 'could be boosted by green investment'

Thousands of graduate jobs could be created if the government invested more money into boosting the energy-efficiency of homes, it has been suggested.

A report from Impetus has claimed that 55,000 roles can be generated if an annual amount of £5 billion is pumped into the sector.

And several groups, including Greenpeace, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), the Trades Union Congress and the Liberal Democrats have backed the proposals.

Richard Diment, director general of the FMB, noted that the measures could provide support for those in the construction industry.

He commented: "Time is running out for indecision; action is needed now if we are to create a greener, more sustainable future."

Nick Clegg, leader of the Lib Democrats, argued that any investment made during the recession must create jobs and aid environmental efforts.

Elsewhere, Building.co.uk has stated that graduates with construction-related qualifications may be able to find work in the energy sector.
