Graduate jobs in construction 'tend to be mobile'
Those in graduate jobs in the construction industry can transfer their skills across a range of sectors, it has been claimed.
Dr Noble Francis, economics director at the Construction Products Association, noted that professionals such as builders and electricians can move from working on homes to public projects, such as schools.
"Within construction people do tend to be quite mobile," he commented, adding that there is "no reason" why a contractor cannot switch to focusing on public sector schemes like hospitals.
However, he stated that transferring skills to infrastructural works can be a little more difficult, explaining that it may take some time to adjust to the change.
Recently, London mayor Boris Johnson revealed proposals to create a centre called the Crossrail Tunnelling Academy, aimed at boosting the construction and engineering skills of people in the capital.
It is hoped that the move can help Londoners find work on the city's Crossrail transport project, the largest building programme of its kind in Europe.
