Employers 'maintaining good relationships' with staff

Employers have been taking more care to ensure they maintain good relations with staff during this recession compared to previous downturns, it has been claimed, something that may be welcomed by those seeking graduate jobs.

A representative of the Institute of Employment Studies (IES) noted that companies want to protect the relationship they have built up with workers over the past few years, despite the slowdown.

It comes after a survey from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development found that the proportion of people who are satisfied with their job has increased since 2006.

Commenting on this, the IES spokesperson said: "There has been a lot more care about employee relations in this recession than perhaps in previous ones."

Employers are thinking about what will happen beyond the downturn and how they can keep their workforce happy, the representative explained.

He added that "job satisfaction "is not something that comes and goes with economic circumstances".
