Students not aware of EU vacancies

<p> <strong>A new survey suggests that three-quarters of students are not aware of the graduate vacancies available in the civil service of the European Union.</strong></p> <p> 74.2% of university students would not be able to apply because they know nothing about the EU recruitment process or application criteria, suggested the poll, carried out by the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office.<br /> <br /> The poll which was completed by around 2,200 university students also revealed that 56% of respondents had considered working for the European Union.</p> <p> David Lidington, the UK government&#39;s Minister for Europe, said he was happy with the response to the survey, but said there is some work yet to do.<br /> <br /> &quot;The results show that there is clearly an appetite amongst young people for working in the EU institutions,&quot; he said. &quot;There is also some work for us to do, in conjunction with our partners, to raise awareness of the career opportunities available.&quot;<br /> <br /> The EU&#39;s graduate vacancies are open to all university-leavers, but the body are especially looking for graduates with French or German as a second language.</p>
