Employers ensuring graduate positions

Employers looking to hire young talent to grow are ensuring their graduate schemes and graduate job vacancies but are not raising their pay-levels say the Higher Education Careers Services Unit.

graduate jobsMany graduate employers, "have gone through the recession this time around by trying to avoid large-scale redundancies or trying to avoid cutting back on their recruitment schemes," explained deputy director of research at the Higher Education Careers Services Unit, Charlie Ball.

The recent recession has hit the wages of all employees leaving little for increased salaries for graduate starters.
Ball said, "In the last recession, many of the employers now who are offering small salary increases or lower wage increments over careers would not have been recruiting at all."

Research published last week by XpertHR found that pay awards fell in the first quarter of 2011, despite upward pressure on salaries.

This news adds more positivity to the jobs market. As Big Choice reported recently the government announced a rise in employment numbers.

The Office for National Statistics recently released the latest employment figures, which show a rise of 143,000 of people in employment, including many roles for graduates.
