MBA Application Process Explained
All candidates will be invited to attend a mandatory interview. This gives the lecturers and faculty members the opportunity to meet you and learn about your business experiences, ambitions and current achievements. Tours around the universities are usually also available during the interview process. Use this to discover more about the course, its current students, lecturers and the university itself. There are also MBA fairs that are available for potential students to attend.
Application Form
Applications to an MBA can be made either online or by post. Most schools will have downloadable application and reference forms on their website, if not if you contact the school they will be happy to send information and forms directly to you.
Two references are required as a part of your application. The references should be able to confirm why you are suitable for your chosen course by giving specific examples of their academic and professional work. Ideally, the references should have known you for over a year and should be either a lecturer or an employer.
First Review
Once the university has received your application you will be reviewed by a member of the MBA Admissions Team. They will take into account the application form, CV, transcripts, references and personal statement in order to assess how strong your application is. If you are successful they will be invited to a mandatory interview.
Interview
Interviews are a very important part of the application process as it is the only time you will be able to completely market yourself to the university face-to-face. This gives the university the opportunity to meet you and learn about business experiences, ambitions and current achievements.
Final MBA Admissions Committee Decision
After the interview the final decision is made by the MBA Admissions Committee. The committee usually meets up every week, ensuring that students will receive their decisions very quickly.
The Admissions Committee usually discuss the strength of candidate's applications and compare them with similar applications. They will also review your post-MBA ambitions and whether or not the course and university will help you succeed these.
Offer and Acceptance
If you are successful in your application and have received an offer you are usually given a period of three - six weeks to respond. Once accepting your place many schools will expect a non-refundable firs reservation fee of £1,000 - £1,500.
