As leading support partners to the British Forces, we’re involved in everything from training fighter pilots and engineers to maintaining warships, refitting submarines and building aircraft carriers.

We design, build and manage baggage handling systems for the world’s airports, and provide infrastructure, networking and transmission solutions for the global communications industry.

We’re working with hundreds of schools to help learners, teachers and communities fulfil their potential, and with energy companies to deliver high voltage power across the country.

We enable the emergency services to maintain peak efficiency by looking after their vehicles, equipment, facilities and training. In the nuclear sector, our in-house expertise delivers complex solutions across every specialist area.

We also work with major public and private sector clients to manage their estates, buildings and assets. Elsewhere, we’re the largest conventional rail track renewals company in the country and the UK’s largest independent provider of vocational training.

In everything we do, our market-leading reputation rests on one key fact: Babcock is a partner that can be trusted to deliver™.

Business support roles
Here the emphasis is on your commercial and business management potential. Graduates gain experience with different teams across our business functions, while also acquiring specific skills that will help them decide their career paths.

For all positions we require an expected 2:2 or above, either in a relevant engineering or technical discipline, or in a business, management, economics or finance related one. We are also looking for qualities that suggest leadership potential – such as a strong customer focus and business outlook, an enthusiasm for new ideas and the ability to inspire others.

Babcock – Graduate Profile

Matt Veasey

Division: Support Services - Nuclear
University: Loughborough University
Degree: MEng (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering

The Babcock graduate training scheme has provided me with a broad span of experience throughout different areas of the business. The two-year scheme, which incorporates three six-month placements, has given me the opportunity to work across a wide range of departments – including software development, control system design, construction and site services, manufacturing and electrical testing. This has allowed me to experience all major aspects of engineering projects – from tendering, planning and design to procurement, building and testing, right through to installation, commissioning and maintenance.

Over the past two years I have broadened my technical understanding in a variety of technologies. I have also taken part in the Babcock Professional Development Programme, which has helped me to grow as a professional engineer. Working with Babcock I have received a lot of support towards attaining Chartered Engineer status. The technical experience and professional development opportunities I have gained in my placements will be invaluable when applying for chartership. Also I have a mentor to guide me through the application process and advise me of opportunities to further strengthen my application.

Overall, the experience of being on the graduate training scheme has helped me to shape my career with Babcock and move into a long-term role that I enjoy.
