Operations Graduate Scheme

As the UK's leading supplier of sugar, we built our first sugar factory at Cantley in Norfolk back in 1912. And that factory is still producing sugar to this day.

Since then, we've seen and introduced our fair share of innovations, from being one of the original manufacturers to add bar codes to packaging, to being the first UK food manufacturer to gain accreditation in quality management system BS5750, the forerunner of ISO9000.

We've also taken the hot water and CO2 that result from our sugar manufacturing process and used them to become the largest producer of salad tomatoes in the country. In addition we are the UK's largest supplier of quality Topsoil products to the landscape and amenity industries and make animal feed as another co-product. We are the first manufacturer of bioethanol in the UK and, thanks to our state-of-the-art gas turbines, sell power we produce back to the National Grid.

Operations Graduate Scheme

You'll be learning to draw on your knowledge of chemistry or engineering to continuously improve processes and introduce new technology while keeping the operation running like clockwork. All this will be against a background of a 24/7 operation, in an environment where health and safety is simply vital. Within 18 months, you'll have the opportunity to run your own shift; to lead and be managing the whole process. It's a massive responsibility.

The scheme is factory-based and offers a job with real management team exposure from day one, involvement in the full production lifecycle and a chance to play a high-profile role in our business. That includes running your own factory sooner rather than later.

Attributes
You're going to need a 'can-do' attitude plus a passion for large-scale engineering. As one of our future leaders, you'll need tenacity, an enquiring mind and the ability to deliver innovative, practical solutions too.

You're keen to take on early responsibility because it won't be long before you're a team leader within the factory. That means you'll need great interpersonal skills and have a talent for influencing those around you. A positive approach will be essential, while an ability to problem solve in innovative and lateral ways will be desirable. Of course, in such a challenging environment you'll need the energy, tenacity and drive to stand out from the crowd.
