About GCHQ

GCHQ is a key part of the UK's intelligence and security service, working with MI5 and MI6 to counter threats to Britain. GCHQ's work is quite distinct from our partner agencies, and falls into two key areas: Signals Intelligence and Information Assurance. Our customers include government agencies and commercial organisations. We employ over 5,000 people, and our HQ is in Cheltenham.

The challenges we face are not for everyone. World events, and the relentless growth of the internet, present us with ever-bigger and more complex problems - many of which could pose real threats to national security and British interest overseas.

Meeting these isn't easy. It will test your creative thinking and analytical skills to the full, and will see you working with some of the world's most innovative and exciting technologies. There's a wide range of areas within which you can specialise - from High-Speed Internet Processing, Hardware and Network Exploration to Data Mining and Natural Language Programming. But they all have one thing in common. The solutions you develop will enable us to intercept data and signals from all over the world - gathering the information and intelligence we need to help counter terrorism and fight crime.
