GCHQ is a critical part of the UK’s intelligence and security service, working with MI5 and MI6 to counter threats to Britain. Home to one of Europe’s most powerful IT estates, we are a technologically driven organisation with some 1500 people working in a variety of teams within a major IT function.

Our Software team has two key roles. One is full life-cycle development and/or support of large computer systems, high-speed networks and database management systems. The other covers the acquisition of major IT systems, advanced computer technologies or new approaches to computer security. With large and small projects of various complexity, the work’s always interesting with plenty of scope for innovation. There are opportunities to move into new areas and develop new skills in emerging technologies. You'll need experience in one or more of the following: Java, C++, J2EE, Weblogic, Oracle and C/UNIX; development/business analysis; OO analysis and design; implementation, integration and test.

You must be a British citizen with a good degree and/or postgraduate qualification in Computer Science or an IT-related subject, Electronics, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or Communications. Alternatively, a good HND/HNC with relevant work experience or significant experience, regardless of technical qualifications (for certain positions).
