Graduate Software Job Description:

Leonardo are offering exciting and challenging Software Engineering opportunity's for new graduates with a science based degree e.g. Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or Electronic Engineering (BSc (Hon) / BEng (Hon) / MEng).

As Software Engineering Graduates are an important part of the software community at Luton we will provide you with the support and environment you need to develop your career and maximise your potential. Successful candidates are expected to perform in all areas of the software development lifecycle from requirement definition, analysis, design, code, test and integration. This could be developing real-time embedded software on a complex aircraft protection system or development of new applications to run on a PC desk-top environment

You will be exposed to the latest tools, technologies and processes and there may be opportunities to contribute towards the investigation and analysis of leading edge development methodologies and influence the future path of software development within Leonardo.

As innovation is key to the success of our business you will be challenged to contribute new ideas as we look to develop our next generation products and provide innovative customer solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Working as part of an established software development team and supported by a team of experienced engineers you will be expected to:
  • Develop and apply your knowledge of software engineering to undertake and support activities, delivering to agreed performance targets, cost and schedule.
  • Develop practical skills in design techniques for land, sea and aerospace applications, understand key processes and technologies, and develop software using state-of-the-art modelling tools, compilers and test environments
  • Work closely with Systems engineers and Hardware engineers to solve real integration problems on a complex systems.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with appropriate processes and procedures to a high standard.
Role Requirements:

Ideally you will have obtained or are predicted to obtain a minimum of an upper second class honours degree in a relevant discipline, (for example physics, mathematics, electronic engineering, systems engineering, avionics, and computer science).

You must be able to obtain SC security clearance (if necessary) and have a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK.

In addition, some roles will require clearance to access caveated information such as UK eyes only and ITAR

Ideally candidates should have some experience of computer programming and be enthusiastic and passionate about designing software and writing code.

Experience of an object-oriented programming language such as C++ and knowledge of UML (Unified Modelling Language) is an advantage.

What can I expect from my working environment?

This is an office based/laboratory based role using display screen equipment working full time hours which can often be in a demanding environment and require lone working. This role may require manual handling and hands-on operation of equipment in a screened lab environment within laboratories containing other hazardous substances.
