About us
Peppy Kids Club is dedicated to educating Japan's children in a safe, fun and interactive learning environment. Our classrooms and curriculum are designed to spark a lifelong interest in English while allowing students to learn about the world around them and meet individuals from a wide spectrum of cultural backgrounds. At PKC, we strive toward the internationalization of our students, preparing them for life in an emerging global community.
The expectation placed upon our teachers is that they will strive to touch the lives of the students they teach, not only by providing high quality English instruction, but by providing friendship and mentorship as well. PKC teachers have the unique opportunity to reach nearly 400 young lives over the course of their time here, and we look for caring, committed individuals who will make the most of that honor.
Working for us
Teachers may be asked to work any day between Sunday and Saturday; however, PKC's regular workdays are normally between Tuesday and Saturday. If a teacher is scheduled to teach on an irregular day (Sunday, Monday or National Holiday), he or she will be given another day off to make up for the one he or she missed. PKC teachers are only required to work an average of five days per week.
Peppy Kids Club classrooms have between one and six, one-hour lessons per day. An average number of lessons are three or four lessons per day. We ask our teachers to be at their classroom 30-60 minutes before the start of their first class in order to adequately prepare for lessons. Commuting times, which may run up to an hour and a half in length each way, are not considered hours of work.
On average, teachers spend between 18 and 24 hours teaching per week. Our workday generally starts in the mid to late afternoon and runs into the evening, leaving mornings free. Teachers are required to attend area and staff meetings (usually twice a month) and participate in the workshops and projects that take place in their area. Staff meetings may take place on the morning of a regular teaching day. Having a staff meeting on a regular teaching day may make for a long day from time to time, but the reward teachers receive from sharing with their peers makes it more than worthwhile. PKC teachers enjoy plenty of time to pursue other interests, such as studying Japanese, exploring the area they live, or becoming involved in their community.
