The Role
Working as part of the Internet Application Development group this role is an important part of a development group working on internet based applications, ranging from national E-mail solutions to E-safety products. The job holder will be technically involved from day one.
The role will involve the design and development of software and solutions for our Value Added Internet services, for example web-based email, secure data transfer and web filtering. Development environments and Operating systems include a good mix of Microsoft and Linux technologies.
The role will work at all stages of the development life cycle, from conception or initial user requirements, through design, development, testing and release. It will involve working with customers and the Product Management team who generate the original requirements.
Responsibilities
This role is a technical role focussed around implementing solutions for specific projects and products.
You will work on design and development using a wide range of development technologies. The role will primarily involve hands on coding.
Duties include:
• Developing robust solutions that meet specifications and requirements to agreed time scales.
• Producing design architecture for components. Work with the project team to write and review functional specs and component designs.
• Working with customers, product managers and support services to understand their requirements and ensure these are catered for in proposed solutions. Support product managers with technical product research and expertise.
Why is this a great opportunity?
This job is a fantastic opportunity to develop the skills required to progress in software development.
Generally each team member has a product or component to own outright, the product owner is the technical authority within the business for that product and any developments to it are often driven, designed and developed by the owner.
The technologies involved are diverse (covering .Net to Linux) so the role has the opportunity to learn, and be trained on, a broad range of current technologies. Due to the nature of the group it is important that we continually update our skills and follow the latest emerging technologies carefully, ensuring the group skills are kept up to date. This guarantees that we are constantly utilising the most appropriate technologies in our developments.
The role will be actively involved in large and complex software development projects, from requirements analysis, through development, to release.
Training & Development
We work with the latest technologies and need engineers to keep their technical skills up to date. We have strong links with Microsoft and work with them on Beta programmes and in designing ground breaking software systems.
Our products also use a number of technologies outside the Microsoft arena and so give great opportunity to an individual who wants to develop a broad base of skills, or to specialise.
We also offer an excellent range of courses designed to improve general skills such as project management and leadership ability.
Future Progression
RM is very focused on the development of their staff and will provide all the support needed to aid them in achieving their goals.
This role is the basis for a number of career paths. From this position the job holder could develop their technical ability to become a principal or premier developer, their technology and marketplace understanding to become a technical architect, their development management skills to become a development team leader / manager or technical lead.
Outside these roles there are opportunities to move to other types of roles, such as product or project management, even marketing or sales with the company secondment scheme.
RM firmly believes that investment in the people that make up the company is what continues to drive us forward.
