Big business, big numbers
With operations in over than 50 countries, the RBS group has grown to become a truly global organisation. Every 60 seconds, 7,230 customer point of sale transactions are authorised, 467 customers logon to digital banking, 1,461 ATM transactions are made, 50 CHAPS payments are processed, 131 calls are answered in our Customer Service Centres, and 837 bank statements and other mail items are sent to customers. None of this would be possible without Manufacturing.
Manufacturing is arguably one of the most diverse areas of our business. It supports virtually the whole organisation and is often described as the engine room behind the RBS group. Across the globe, every payment we process, every call answered in our customer service centres and every ATM withdrawal made by our customers is supported by the work Manufacturing does.
Breadth and depth of responsibility
But that’s not the whole story. As well as developing and maintaining the infrastructure and technology that support our branches and cash machines, internet and telephone banking services, mortgage processing and money transmission, Manufacturing also manages our portfolio of more than 3,500 properties around the world and takes responsibility for most of our purchasing. That exceptional breadth and depth of responsibilities will offer you plenty of excitement and variety.
Real projects. Real challenges
The Manufacturing Leadership programme is designed to prepare you for a future leadership position in any one of a huge number of areas. From an extremely early stage you’ll be given leadership responsibility, typically for a team of up to 12 people. And by the time you’ve completed this two-year programme that number may have risen to anything from 50 to 150.
Two years. Three placements
Over the course of the programme you’ll typically undertake three placements, each lasting eight months. One will be in Operations as a Team Manager or in a similar people leadership role. Another will see you working in a project management environment, involved in change orientation. And the third will be in a specific business area – anything from Purchasing or Property to Technology Services or Security and Fraud.
A partnership approach to development
Throughout, you’ll enjoy a partnership approach to your development that will reflect your aspirations. You’ll have the chance to work alongside senior managers on a regular basis, to broaden your networks and to gain a real insight into our business. And the opportunity to engage, inspire and deliver through people. In short, you’ll get to experience management in the widest possible sense and explore the entire organisation before finding your niche.
What we’ll be looking for
Whatever the subject of your degree, a record of academic achievement is important. But perhaps even more so are the personal qualities you bring. Energy, enthusiasm, drive, ambition and a talent for bringing out the best in everyone around you. Given the variety of our work and the global nature of our organisation, you’ve also got to be willing to embrace that mindset, take on new and exciting challenges and make the most of every opportunity that comes your way.
