---------------------------------------------------
Sainsbury's is more than just a food retailer; it is a diverse business that enjoys universal appeal and a rich 140 year heritage. As one of the top retailers in the FTSE 100 there are a number of different ways for graduates to get involved. It is looking for exceptional graduates that will help bring fresh talent and ideas to the business and who are hungry to play a part of its continued success.
What does the scheme involve?
The Commercial team covers the lifecycle of supermarkets: from planning the store to building it at the right price (in an energy efficient way) and then maintaining it. Our goal is to deliver "Better, Simpler and for Less": Better for our Customers, Simpler for our Colleagues, and for Less to Sainsbury's.
Join this scheme and after your store placement you'll return to the Store Support Centre in London to experience procurement, store development, construction or engineering. You might be involved in deciding how we are going to spend our £900m capital investment across our stores, support the Energy team in the roll out of cutting edge energy-efficient initiatives, or renegotiating contracts with suppliers worth millions of pounds.
The Commercial scheme is 18 months long and you'll spend your first four months in store. This will help you see what impact the Commercial division has on our stores and customers and how we touch their lives daily. This ranges from the carrier bags we use at one extreme to the construction of the roof on a store at the other. On returning to the Store Support Centre, you will complete various placements to experience our store development and construction programme and learn the skills involved in space planning, the retailers way of ensuring that best value is driven from our property. In addition you will be heavily involved in procuring the hundreds of products or services which are required to operate our business on a day-to-day basis through a placement in our Good Not For Resale Procurement. A further two month placement in Retail will enable you to complete a Commercial-focused project, to enable you to understand the impact your role has on our colleagues, and customers.
What are we looking for?
You'll need to have a 2.1 degree or above related to engineering, architecture, business or science. But you'll also need to be motivated to improve customers' shopping experience and driven to ensure Sainsbury's remain at the cutting edge.
What skills will you develop?
As well as developing and honing project and time management skills you'll learn a raft of other essential business skills such as: communication, impact and influencing, negotiation, analysis, commercial awareness and technical assessment.
What are the benefits?
