Job Description

Sainsbury's is more than just a food retailer; it is a diverse business that enjoys universal appeal and a rich 140 year heritage. As one of the top retailers in the FTSE 100 there are a number of different ways for graduates to get involved. It is looking for exceptional graduates that will help bring fresh talent and ideas to the business and who are hungry to play a part of its continued success.

What does the scheme involve?
Logistics ensure products reach stores on time, in excellent condition and at the right cost. No two days on this scheme are the same and the pace is hectic.

You begin in store then move to the distribution centres at the sharp end of our operation. This will help you to see how issues such as product availability affect our customers and help you understand the complexities involved in getting a product from supplier to customer.

A placement with the Central Supply Chain at our London Store Support Centre exposes you to forecasting and supplier liaison. By the end of the scheme you'll be in a position to take up a management role within the Logistics division and progress to become a senior logistics leader.

What are we looking for?
We're looking for people with a passion for retail, service and detail, ideally with previous retail work experience. You'll be highly motivated, resilient and adaptable, to deliver across the diverse working environments that exist within Logistics. Work won't always be nine to five: ours is a 24 hours a day, seven days a week operation which will mean you will be working a variety expected to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. We will also require a minimum 2.1 or above, ideally in a relevant logistics, retail or business management degree.

What skills will you develop?
Through early responsibility for people and projects you'll develop a good understanding of the operational and managerial issues surrounding the logistics division. Coupled with the leadership skills you'll learn (we're looking for the logistics leaders of the future), this scheme represents an exciting head start into your career.

What are the benefits?

  • £23k starting salary with excellent salary progression
  • 22 days holiday
  • 10% staff discount after six months
  • Discretionary annual bonus Comprehensive understanding of commercial issues
  • Very fast-moving work environment
  • The responsibility of making decisions that affect the shopping habits of our 17 million customers
  • Make a difference in an area that is critical to the success of our business
