Sainsburys - Logistics Graduate Scheme

What does the scheme involve?
Our logistics division ensures products reach stores on time, in excellent condition and at a competitive cost. Changes in weather, economic upheaval, traffic jams - many factors affect the flow of products so this is a fast-moving environment where there's never a predictable day.

The scheme is 18 months long and covers many areas of this complex part of our business. You'll begin with a four-month placement in our stores, which will help you to see how issues such as product availability affect our customers and the complexities involved in getting a product from supplier to customer. You will then experience the sharp end of the operation in our distribution centres, where there will be a strong focus on environmental issues.

Transport plays an integral part in ensuring the wheels don't come off the operation, enabling products to reach our distribution centres and stores in a timely fashion for our customer. Thus a placement here will be crucial.

A placement with the Central Supply Chain at our London Store Support Centre will then provide an insight into areas such as forecasting and supplier liaison.

This all round experience will ensure by the end of the scheme, you will be in a position to take up a management role within the Logistics division and progress to become a senior logistics leader of the future.

What are we looking for?
We're looking for people with a passion for retail, service and detail. You'll be highly motivated, resilient and adaptable, to deliver across the diverse working environments and wide range of people that exist within Logistics. And work won't always be nine to five: ours is a 24 / 7 operation. We will also require a minimum 2.2 or above, ideally in a relevant logistics, retail or business management degree.

What skills will you develop?
Through early responsibility for people and projects you'll develop a good understanding of the operational and managerial issues surrounding the logistics division. Coupled with the leadership skills you'll learn (we're looking for the logistics leaders of the future), this scheme represents an exciting head start into your career.
