Skills placements at Lincoln Cathedral

Lincoln Cathedral is offering heritage skills placements.

Bursaries to learn stonemasonry, joinery and lead work have been organised by the Lincolnshire County Council in partnership with the cathedral.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has provided a £500,000 grant to fund 18-month placements, along with a heritage skills centre in the castle.

Organisers said the scheme would help both the craftsmen and the cathedral.

Works manager at the cathedral Carol Heidschuster said: "There is a real shortage of these sort of skills.

"This sort of mentoring is how the skills have been passed down through the centuries and this is also a way of giving something back to the region."

The placements will count towards an NVQ. The closing date for the first three places is 14 March.
