Baker & McKenzie is the law firm with the greatest global reach. We currently have 64 offices in 35 countries, all operating as one global partnership. Since it was established in 1961, Baker & McKenzie's London office has expanded rapidly and today is a leading city law firm providing legal services to corporations, financial institutions, governments and entrepreneurs.
At the heart of the firm is the Corporate Department, which has acknowledged expertise in international securities work, strong links with venture capital companies and has acted in relation to several privatisations.
We also have a strong local reputation in several important specialist areas such as intellectual property and information technology, telecommunications, employment, pensions, construction and projects, project finance and financial products (such as "swaps" and derivatives). As might be expected with a firm with a very strong international client base, we have considerable expertise in acting on, and co-ordinating, cross-border transactions and disputes.
Each year we look for approximately 30 trainee solicitors to start work with us in London. We recruit both law and non-law graduates and expect candidates to obtain a 2.1degree.
The starting salary for trainees in September 2002 was £28,000 plus a £3000 joining bonus.
Successful applicants will receive payment of all course fees relating to the CPE and LPC plus a maintenance grant of £5,000 for each course. In addition, for their LPC they will be given the choice to receive either an additional £2000 or a laptop computer with an up to date software package.
Application is by way of covering letter and completion of our application form.
The closing date for non-law students (i.e. those that are required to take, are currently undertaking or have completed the CPE) is 18 February 2003 and for law students it is 28 July 2003.
