Choosing A University

Every university is different and each student wants different things, so finding the perfect university can be a difficult task.

There are over 150 universities to choose from with a variety of courses on offer. Make sure you thoroughly research the universities and courses available and visit several campuses before making your decision.

There are some factors that you need to consider when deciding what university to go to. For some, the choice of subject and type of course will narrow down the number of possible universities to pick from. Here are other factors to think about:

Location
The location plays an important part of university life. Going away to university will give you a very difference experience compared to that of living at home. You will also have to consider the location of the university itself. Is it near a town centre? Has it got good transport links? What facilities does the university town have? These are all important things to consider.

What type of university?
Universities vary greatly. One may be a world renowned university offering a traditional course with a high level of students who achieve straight As. On the other hand there is the type of university which offers a variety of less traditional courses to largely local students. Both universities are very good at providing you with an education, but both will give you a different experience and it is important to consider your exact needs.

Quality and reputation
The quality and reputation of the university may determine your decision on which university to attend. Most students want to go to a good university where the league table rankings are high. If a university has a good reputation and its current students rate it high in terms of experience then your expectations will be nothing but good.

The facilities
Most universities have fairly similarfacilities such as a library, sports facilities, careers service and a health service. Students union buildings are the hub of student life on most campuses, and offer a variety of services including bars, shops and clubs. Research each university to make sure they have facilities that match your individual needs.
