Soft A-level courses can hinder university applications

The Russell Group has said that choosing 'soft' A-level subjects could hinder people trying to obtain a university place.

A booklet produced by the group entitled Informed Choices, highlights the fact that tradition subjects are more likely to gain applicants a university place.

Developed by the Russell Group of leading research-intensive institutions, the guide proposed for post-GCSE students clarifies that the Russell Group themselves do favour Maths, Science and English over subjects such as Art, Media Studies and Photography.
