Turn:Learn

One of the UK's biggest engineering businesses, National Grid owns and maintains the 'grid' of towers (pylons) and gas pipelines which carries energy across Britain. Helping us look after it all, this award-winning scheme will turn your interest in practical issues into a long-term career, where you'll constantly learn and develop new skills.

It can take up to 3 years to complete, and you'll do half your learning on the job, and half in formal study and training which will take place on residential courses away from home - so you must be prepared to live away (accommodation and meals are provided).
By the end of the scheme you'll be a skilled craftsperson with relevant qualifications, and can look forward to an interesting and rewarding career in our business. You will be fully trained as a Craftsperson, ready, to tackle a wide range of complex technical work including planned maintenance and electrical fault-finding on our substations across the UK.

Training includes:
Induction
- which includes team building, safety and personal development activities

Off-the-job training at our training centres where you'll work with state-of-the-art equipment in workshops

Study for qualifications. This will lead to a nationally recognised technical certificate qualification - e.g. City & Guilds - and an NVQ level 3 relevant to your job role at the end of the apprenticeship

On-the-job training. From your second year on, most of your time will be spent on site with a small team, putting your new skills into practice.

Our apprentices include males and females, from a range of backgrounds, including school leavers, technical colleges, other apprenticeships (technical and non-technical) and related trades.
We look for at least five GCSEs (Grade C or above), which must include Maths, English Language and one science, technology or engineering subject, together with a real interest in technical matters.Winner
