The Role
Information Systems is responsible for the complete IT Infrastructure that underpins RM's business. This includes corporate networks, telecommunications, and all computer applications enabling the company to maximise its competitive advantage.

Network Services is the department within Information Systems that is responsible for developing the network and telecommunications infrastructure, maintaining a high level of availability and performance of these systems and supporting RM's staff in making effective use of these. The department also has ownership for externally hosted solutions that are critical in delivering a service to RM's customers.

This graduate role is within the Network Services Support team. This team is responsible for providing network, telecommunications and application support across RM's LAN and WAN infrastructure. Support is provided for office and home based internal customers on Microsoft operating systems and products as well as RM and 3rd Party applications.

Responsibilities
Working as part of the Network Services Support team the successful individual will develop a thorough understanding of the company's network and telecommunications infrastructure. They will interact with every division within RM, developing their communication, negotiation and customer handling skills.
The role will involve:

  • Reactive support - 2nd and 3rd line telephone and desktop support for 1700+ RM staff. Assisting in the support and maintenance of nearly 200 servers across 14 locations.
  • Project Ownership - identification, project management and implementation of support team projects and improvements.
  • Knowledge management - enhancing RM's internal Support Online site by contributing new ideas as well as ensuring that online content is relevant and up to date.
  • Customer communication - understanding the specific IT support issues affecting all RM's internal customers and working towards long-term robust solutions.
  • Extended hours support - supporting RM.com and other business critical services, to ensure maximum customer availability.

Key technologies that the role includes are:
Windows 2003/2000 Servers (mostly HP/Compaq), blade centres and storage area networks, Windows 2003 Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Exchange 2003, SQL Server 2000/2005, IIS, Windows XP, Vista, Norton anti-virus/security centre, Legato backups, MS Office, Project etc, VoIP, and Cisco and HP routers and switches.

Training & Development
We aim to progress our staff in personal and technical development through a range of available courses, personal training and experience in carrying out the role. We offer an excellent range of courses through our Human Resources department that are designed to improve general and business skills such as Time Management, Project Management, Communication and Influencing. Your manager will work with you to identify goals to work towards and will proactively support your development.

Qualifications & Experience
A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in Computing, Engineering, Science, Maths or an IT related subject.

260 UCAS tariff points or equivalent

In addition you will have:

- The ability to work well and be motivated by working in a team

Preferred experience will include:
- Some experience in a support or customer facing role.
