This role works across several interdisciplinary teams within the group working together on a range of activities associated with the drug development process. You will help create and characterise cell lines and processes required for the production of clinical grade products.
As part of this you will gain experience in transient expression systems, stable cell line development, cell culture and bioreactor process design and an understanding of the analytical methods used to support the development process.
You will receive extensive training for all aspects of the role, and will be assigned your own mentor to provide help and advice during your time at MedImmune.
In addition, you will be supported and funded to undertake an accredited degree course part-time whilst working.
This is an amazing opportunity to work in industry-leading laboratories at the cutting edge of drug development.
Medlmmune's Cell Culture and Fermentation Sciences (CCFS) group in Cambridge is responsible for the design, creation and characterisation of cell lines and cell culture processes suitable for the production of therapeutic molecules for supply to patients. This involves the application of a diverse range of scientific disciplines, including molecular biology, cell culture, media design, bioreactor engineering as well as molecular and process analytics.
The outputs from the group are essential for the development of the processes for therapeutic molecule production and central for the progression of the drug development pipeline. The group is divided into several interdisciplinary teams consisting of:
- Early Expression and Supply (EES)
- Cell Line Development (CLD)
- Cell Culture and Process Design (CCPD)
- Large Scale Bioreactor Processes (LSBP)
- BioProcess Analytics (BPA)
You will spend time working with each of these teams to gain experience and understanding in these aspects of the drug development process.
- Molecular Biology
- Cell Culture
- Process analytics
- Bioreactor processing
Role specific technical ability:
- DNA preparations
- Manual cell culture
- Cell counting
- Cell cryopreservation
- Protein A HPLC
- Bioreactor set up and Operation
- Microscale, bench scale and large scale systems
