Business Apprenticeship Programme
The Leonardo Business Apprenticeship is structured around a programme of placements that will see you move around the business over a 2 year period designed to give you as much experience of and exposure to an international business environment as possible. This will help you identify areas that interest/excite you and also give you a wider understanding of how a global business operates. The placement plan is flexible, giving you the opportunity to select which areas you would like to experience and for how long.
This role will be specific to the Compliance and Legal area so you will gain valuable knowledge in many areas, understanding how the departments work together and support the business. Typically, the following placements will be experienced for this position:
Legal - Working with the Company’s Legal Team to gain appreciation of the types of general legal support and advice the UK based legal team provide to the business, for example to the commercial and procurement teams, in matters relating to the operation of Leonardo’s UK business across domestic and international matters.
Corporate Affairs - Working within Corporate Affairs you will gain experience of the Company Secretarial activities undertaken in relation to Leonardo’s main UK legal entity, its international subsidiaries, all UK registered group companies, and other international companies
Business and Trade Compliance - Working within the company’s business compliance team you will gain the experience and insight of how large International Companies manage their ethical compliance programme. As well as develop an understanding of Export Control and Trade Compliance requirements for shipping highly technical products across the globe. Whilst working within a team that implements and monitors compliance activities in relation to the company’s trade and business compliance programmes by understanding the applicable legislation and regulations (including the UK Bribery Act 2010 and the Criminal Finance Act 2017 to name just two).
Commercial - Working as part of the Commercial team you will gain an insight into the exciting world of contract management, offering support to customer negotiations to secure new business and support live programmes.
Procurement - Supporting the procurement team you will help build and maintain strategic relationships with our suppliers. Supplier relations are essential for successful and cost effective delivery on programmes.
You will undertake an NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration as part of your apprenticeship. Furthermore, a significant number of Leonardo apprentices go on to undertake and complete a range of business and non-business related degrees. Leonardo is recognised for its outstanding work with apprentices, being named in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers by the City & Guilds and the National Apprenticeship Service.
Supported by a thriving apprentice community you will be encouraged to take part in a number of extra-curricular activities; from sporting to charity events and also school engagement programmes to help you develop both your professional and personal career.
On completion of your apprenticeship you will have the tools and experience required to discover your passion and secure a future at Leonardo. 90% apprentices complete the scheme and obtain a full time role in an area in which they will thrive, and many leaders of the business started their careers as apprentices.
What do we need from you?
2 x A Levels (Grade A* - C) one of which must be English, Maths or a Business subject
An alternative Level 3 qualification, which must be in a business related subject
GCSE (Grade 4 - 9 / Grade A* - C) in Maths and English
- Have a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK
- Successfully complete SC security clearance

What can I expect from my working environment?
You will be working within world class facilities regardless of which site you are based. Dependent on your role, you may be working in an office or lab environment or a combination of both. There may also be opportunities to travel between different sites and to meet with customers and suppliers. Occasionally you may also travel abroad.
