Job Description

Our client was founded in 2010 but is already a leading independent power company in the UK. Based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire it builds, owns and operates small power plants around the UK to provide National Grid with key support services. They have continued growth ambitions over the coming years.


The objective of this role is to provide a key function for the Company, being involved in the day-to-day running, inspection and maintenance of our operational power plants around the UK but based out of our Head Office. The role will also include involvement in the design, specification and construction of our new build plants. The role would suit a recent graduate, preferably with some work experience in the utility sector.

The successful candidate will be supported through development and training to become a Chartered Electrical Engineer with full membership of the IET.


Key Objectives:

  • Support operation of 200MW fleet of peaking power plants spread around the UK.

  • Attend site on a non-routine basis in the event of a breakdown or fault. Exceptionally, be available and able to attend on a 24/7 basis as “first responder” for faults.

  • Be able to undertake minor mechanical and electrical works, as well as control analysis and fault-finding, on the power plants. Supervise and direct contractors as required.

  • Support operation of battery storage projects and development and build of new sites.

  • Be part of an innovative team looking at new ways of providing grid services in the UK and their associated control systems.

Immediately be trained to act as a Competent Person under our Safety Rules and undertake training to act as an Authorised Person within 12 months.


  • Self-starter with keen technical acumen.

  • Need an understanding of electrical generation and/or distribution systems, including their associated control/communications systems.

  • Helpful to have gained experience in a UK utility and/or infrastructure operator.

  • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to take responsibility.

  • Qualified to degree level within the last 5 years in a relevant technical subject, preferably an electrical machines bias.

  • Have a clean driving licence – company vehicle provided.
