Raleigh International : Volunteering Overseas
Considering your gap year options? Ditch the usual ‘backpacker’ trip and have an adventure that matters.
Go off the beaten path with Raleigh International! Since their foundation as a charity in 1984, Raleigh has led 17-24 year olds on life-changing Expeditions that combines sustainable travel and volunteering.
As part of an international team, you will live and engage with remote communities in Nepal, Tanzania or Costa Rica not visited by tourists, and work on meaningful projects that create lasting change and protect natural resources.
Expeditions offer you more than just the opportunity to travel the world making a difference. It also gives you the chance to build skills for future careers or study that will help you stand out from the crowd.
We don’t care what school you went to or what exam results you got. We don’t care whether you’re the quiet one or the joker in your group of friends. We do care about bringing together open-minded, positive people with the energy to make a difference.
Where will your adventure take you?
Raleigh runs Expeditions in three stunning locations around the world for 4, 5, 7 and 10 weeks. Each Expedition is a unique mixture of impactful projects, personal discovery and true adventure.
Travel to Nepal, where you can be part of a community development project that helps to rebuild a rural community that was devastated by the 2015 earthquake. In addition to volunteering, embark on an adventure trek through the breathtaking foothills of the Himalayas.
Visit the East African country of Tanzania, where you will take part in sustainable community development and environmental projects. Immerse yourself in Tanzanian culture while you help to improve access to clean water and promote hygiene awareness, and lend a hand to local reforestation efforts. Go on an adventure trek and pick up survival skills while visiting Ruaha National Park to round out your experience!
Travel to colourful Costa Rica and learn about Latin American culture while living and working alongside community members. During your time volunteering, you will have the chance to improve access to a national park for park rangers, communities, and tourists - and for the adventure side of your trip, you will be able to go on a trek to explore one of the most biodiverse regions of the world.
There are limited places available on Expeditions departing in autumn 2018 and spring 2019.
