ESCP Campus Visit - 17th September 2014
Societe Generale - ESCP Campus VisitThe Societe Generale (SG) Resourcing team in the UK has had a great start to the number of events that they have arranged for the current academic year.

Our Resourcing Team were also joined by members of the bank's Corporate Finance division on what was a consistently busy Careers Fair and it was excellent to see the number of students who showed an interest in the various divisions of the bank.

As well as promoting our off cycle and permanent opportunities for 2015, the SG Resourcing team has visited various campuses to highlight  its role as the official bank sponsor for Rugby World Cup 2015. All students that attended and visited the SG stand completed a contact card have been entered into a free prize draw for RWC 2015 tickets.

Following the Careers Fair, the SG Resourcing team joined forces with other firms to assist with running a workshop for students to understand a little more about the Employer Value Proposition and the importance of a more sophisticated approach to working through the recruitment process as a candidate. This was a great session which was followed by more networking with the students.

HEC Event at SG House - London -19th September 2014
Societe Generale - HEC Event at SG House - LondonOn Friday, 19th September HEC visited the Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking office in Tower Hill, which was the first UK office that opened 150 years ago.

The conference started with a well deserved breakfast, followed by a welcome speech and presentation on the Global Research division by Alexander Gancz, who talked about the excellent product suite published by the research teams at the bank. This was followed by an introduction to SG UK by the Chief Country Officer, Ian Fisher who in addition provided an overview of the different divisions.  Ian Fisher also explained the values that SG looks for and encourages internally to recognise future talent. The students also had a very comprehensive insight into capital markets by the Global Head of Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Demetrio Salorio, who took the audience through everything from types of products, clients and potential solutions provided by his team, and talked through the cycle of a deal from issuer and  investor perspective.

To close the event, Ian Morgan the Co Head of European Rates Sales, talked about the role of Global Markets within the Investment Bank, elaborating on how the rates sales team works together with other teams (e.g. DCM & Research) and explained what would be expected on a day to day basis on the trading floor.

We look forward to meeting more HEC students on 3rd October 2014.

HEC Insight Day - 3RD October 2014

A group of 50 students from the Economics and Management programme at HEC visited SG House at Tower Hill on Friday, 3rd October. They were welcomed with an introduction to the  Societe Generale umbrella group by the COO, Philippe Robeyns, followed by an interactive session with the senior recruiter, Alex Pereyra who focused on how students can search for  careers in investment banking, how to apply and the benefits, opportunities and values at SG.

As most of the audience were  aspiring Economists, we decided to give them a rare opportunity to hear business case studies from two research teams:-

Alexandre Gancz, Head of UK Research talked through the spectrum of research products published by SG and the integral differences between them whilst Brian Hilliard, Chief UK Economist rated no.2 in the world (Thomson Reuters Extel Europe and Euromoney 2014 Survey) provided an insight into his day to day work and was able to provide expert views during the Q&A session.

But a Global Markets insight could not be complete without including the trading floor, in this event a dual presentation was given  by the Global Co head of FIC Sales, Albert Loo and Head of Interbank Sales, Alex Chaillou who also happens to be one of the youngest Heads of business within the bank. Together they succeeded in championing SG's appetite for developing young talent.

Warwick Business School - 6th October 2014
Societe Generale - Warwick Business School 180 students attended the Careers in Finance student conference hosted at the University of Warwick campus in Coventry. The event featured an ambitious line up of guest speakers including: Barclays, Capco, Carlyle Group, KPMG, Centerview, Deutsche Bank and of course SG with no breaks in between!

Since SG was fifth  to present,  the trio of guest speakers -  Alexandre Gancz, Head of Research UK, Laure Fauchet, Junior Analyst, and Alex Pereyra, Senior Recruiter - were in a tough spot to capture the audience. But the trio embraced the challenge and decided to infuse the room with energy and SG marketing points to make connections with to what they had heard thus far.  They managed to successfully cover Societe Generale from a group level, a career as an analyst and other functions  as well as values and the reason why the bank is a great prospective employer.

We have since received an "unexpected" invitation to host a one hour slot for a selection of the university's students which we are currently discussing.

Warwick – Careers Fair - 16th October 2014
Societe Generale - Warwick Business SchoolOn Thursday 16th October 2014 three of the SG Resourcing Team went along to the University of Warwick City & Finance Fair. The event was huge and attracted all of the top corporate employers in the UK with a heavy representation from the Investment Banking sector. The flow through of exceptional top student talent was big with a lot of students knowing about the SG brand and were excited at our year round entry points for Trainee and Entry level Analyst roles. Even with the competition`s stand behind us (BNPP) our proposition linked with our Rugby World Cup theme proved to be a big draw to our stand and we look forward to having ongoing discussions with the Warwick students.

Cambridge Judge Business School – 30th October
Societe Generale staff from the M&A Oil & Gas desk along with HR Recruitment visited Judge Business School in Cambridge. Best described as an interactive business case presented by the Director of the Oil & Gas team, Christopher Thomas along with his junior colleagues Associate, Elise Boulon and Analyst, Jay Doshi. Explicitly taking the group through the methodology and process of a specific deal from M&A banker's perspective. The group session generated plenty of questions for the team, which helped depict a full picture of this market and perhaps address some of the myths along the way.

The senior recruiter Alexandra Pereyra was able to describe the support network for SG's junior talent in the UK, the bank's diverse platform, as well as, common values and objectives for the future leaders.

This was closed by a great networking session where the students made the best of their time, asking, challenging and pitching their visitors on career opportunities they aspire towards!
