Darren Summers: Global Entertainment Finance, Business & Administration Apprentice 2011/2012

So, my journey began back in 2011, whilst working in Next retail I applied for an apprenticeship within ITV via the apprenticeships.gov website. I made it through the application process (I believe over 1000 people applied!) and was invited down to Grays Inn Road for an assessment workshop. I then progressed through to the next stage and was shortlisted for various interviews with different parts of ITV, such as Global Entertainment, Sport and Online.

The GE (Global Entertainment) team was impressed with my interview and I was invited back, along with another candidate, for a second interview before a final decision was made. I then received a call a few days later confirming I was successful and had gained a place on the ITV apprenticeship scheme!

The role was a team assistant within the Finance department of Global Entertainment, the distribution part of the business. Whilst working I completed an NVQ level 3 in Business & Administration. I also actively asked other departments if they needed any assistance, so I worked a lot with the Operations department within GE.

10 months into my apprenticeship, a permanent role became available within the Operations department, and because of my experience of working with them whilst an apprentice, I applied and managed to secure a role as a Sales Services Assistant, sending out content to various broadcasters and platforms across the globe.

5 years later, i am now working as a Localisation Coordinator within GE, which handles all of the content that needs dubbing and subtitling into various languages for the titles that ITV distribute internationally. So I have had 3 different roles within ITV already, and this is all thanks to the apprenticeship scheme which helped start my career.
