          Your duties will include:

          • Answering regular telephone calls
          • Delivering post to individuals involved in production
          • Photocopying relevant documents and doing general administrative work
          • Driving cars, vans and trucks between filming locations and sets
          • Delivering equipment, e.g. tapes, cables and scripts
          • Getting everything ready for shoots
          • Assisting in the organisation a location for shoots
          • Hiring and calling-in props
          • Making and handing out tea, coffee and lunches
          • Ordering stock
          • Looking after guests
          • Picking up cast members
          • Taking messages and pass them on to relevant people
          • Writing down shot lists
          • Undertaking basic research

          This is commonly a 9am - 5pm job, though unsocial hours and irregular hours are common depending upon the nature of the production. For instance, some TV series may require a lot of night shoots.

          Working hours are unpredictable in this industry and often take up to six days a week during a production period. Shooting is often a 24-hour operation, which requires you to work nights, weekends and public holidays.

          There is no set salary for this role, due to the nature of the job. For example, a job may not last longer than six-months. The Broadcasting Entertainment Cinematograph and Theatre Union (BECTU) has recommended that runners are paid hourly rates between £7.50 to £13.38.

          What qualifications does a TV production runner need?

          There are no set qualifications required for this role, but a relevant Higher National Diploma (HND), degree or postgraduate qualification will be desirable for an employer. However, this is the kind of industry where work experience is valued very highly.
