Hydraulic Engineer Intern - Summer Placement Job ID: Location: Lingley Mere Headquarters, Warrington, UK. Possibility for some hybrid working as well as office-based working, to be agreed with line manager during on boarding process. The candidate will need to ensure that they can travel to Lingley Mere Headquarters in Warrington on a regular basis and when required. Duration: 3 months (Flexible on circumstances) Salary: £23,152 per annum (pro-rota based on duration) Working Hours: 37.00 per week Start Date: June 2024 (Flexible start date to be agreed) United Utilities provides water and sewage services to seven million people across the North West of England. Role Overview In the Engineering department the successful student will join a team working on real business projects, carrying out a variety of engineering tasks. There is an opportunity to develop your hydraulic engineering skills whilst gaining real world experience working alongside technical specialists and operational engineers solving problems that could impact customers and the environment. As a Hydraulic Engineering Intern you will be able to develop your hydraulics knowledge in some of the following areas: wastewater treatment, networks, reservoirs, river flood risk studies and geomorphology. Projects may include treatment work schemes, combined sewer overflows (CSOs), the design of pipelines and open channel arrangements for wastewater, water and reservoir infrastructure. You will develop your experience and expertise in data gathering and the analysis required for hydraulic engineering design, as well as your knowledge of health and safety techniques and the regulatory environment - both of which are really important to us. We will help you gain an understanding of the projects being undertaken by United Utilities and the methods used to deliver them. Specific tasks may be assigned during this time. You will be accountable for delivering these with the support of experienced engineers and your Line Manager. During your Internship you may also be given the opportunity to visit some our sites. You'll see how we carefully produce clean safe drinking water and how we treat wastewater in order to release it safely back into the environment. You will also get the opportunity to mix with our current graduates who can share experiences, tips, and guidance with you for the next steps in your career. What we are looking for United Utilities are looking for undergraduate engineers in their penultimate year of studying an engineering degree, or specialising in hydrological processes. The successful applicant will have an interest in engineering in the water sector. To apply you need to: Have researched and have knowledge of United Utilities' engineering activities Be working towards at least a 2:1 accredited bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (i.e. Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering) or specialising in hydrological processes Be technically competent with good planning, organisational and problem-solving skills Have good computer skills particularly in Microsoft Office Be motivated and enthusiastic, an excellent team player, possessing ambition and drive Possess good written and interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate and influence across all levels Be able to be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to deadlines as well as being able to prioritise your time Benefits If you want to join an FTSE 100 company that wants to disrupt the water industry and you want to make a positive change in the world we would like to hear from you.
