UK Power Networks

Our company in a nutshell

Did you boil a kettle to make a coffee this morning? Or charge your iPod? Or turn on the lights while you brushed your teeth? Have you jumped on the Tube recently or jetted off from one of the major airports in the South East? All of these events could not have occurred without UK Power Networks.

UK Power Networks distributes more than a quarter of the UK’s electricity through its networks of substations, underground cables and overhead lines making sure the lights stay on across London, the South East and the East of England, regardless of who customers pay their energy bills to. We are responsible for the electricity cables and lines. It is our job to maintain these cables and upgrade power equipment.  We also move and connect new electricity cables making sure your lights stay on.

Our network is made of over 170,000 kilometres of power lines and underground cables. We operate approximately 130,000 substations. We deliver electricity to a quarter of the UK's population that’s more than 8 million customers and employ more than 6,000 people to make sure our customers have a secure, safe and sustainable power supply.

UK Power Networks is owned by Cheung Kong Group (CKG). Operating in 54 countries, CKG employs more than 240,000 people worldwide. CKG has a proven pedigree in running high-quality utility companies and a track record of wise investment and long-term plans.
