The Adjutant General's Corps (AGC) is one of the largest Corps in the British Army and provides support in the form of Combat Human Resources Specialists, Military Police, Military Provost Staff, Military Provost Guard Service, Educational and Training Services and Army Legal Services. Just like every large organisation, the Army requires professional HR, administrative and financial support services to maintain its capability. This capability sits within the Adjutant General\'s Corps (AGC) which is one of the largest Corps in the British Army and more specifically with the Staff and Personnel Support (SPS) branch. With their duties including personnel and financial administration of serving soldiers, the SPS serve with every unit of the British Army; you could find yourself attached to the Infantry, Engineers, Medics or Signals, so there is a lot of scope for variety and excitement. You’ll travel the world on operations and exercises, going wherever your unit goes and experiencing the traditions and culture of the Regiments you serve.

Impact and Responsibility. The Chain of Command relies upon the specialist knowledge of the SPS in order to conduct most forms of activity; the position can therefore be considered high profile and ultimately, very rewarding.

Adding Value. The role of the SPS is essential in maintaining the Units capability, as a junior officer you will be responsible for the career management and training of your soldiers and first line assurance for the Commanding Officer.

Variety and Diversity. The SPS offers opportunities to serve within any Unit of the British Army; this includes the capacity for female soldiers to serve with Combat Arms such as the Infantry and the opportunity for SPS officers to complete arduous courses such as the All Arms Army Commando or All Arms Parachute Company Courses.

Qualifications & Accreditation. SPS officers will gain relevant qualifications and & accreditations throughout their career; these are both recognised and valued by civilian employers.

Important Dates
  • You will complete the 44-week Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where you’ll learn to lead soldiers with authority. After commissioning you will attend the Detachment Commanders’ course at the home of the Adjutant General’s Corps in Winchester for an 11-week course in administration, finance and IT training. Once complete you will post to your first unit where you will remain for two years and continue to learn on the job as a Detachment Commander.
