OVERVIEW OF ROLE: The successful applicant will be actively involved in all aspects of the buying function and its administration. They will provide analytical, operational and administrative support to the production team, whilst developing the skills necessary to successfully negotiate purchases of both general and specialised commodities. This is a key role which has a direct impact on the success and profitability of the Company. KEY RESPONSIBLILITIES Set up and maintain stock and supplier records. Place orders and complete the corresponding paperwork in a timely manner. Process deliveries, investigate any discrepancies with suppliers and chase any deliveries which are overdue. Establish and maintain good working relationships with suppliers and internal departments. Ensure timely, full and accurate communications with key individuals and all relevant departments on any factors which impact on delivery dates, commitments to customer, quality etc. Report any supplier performance issues in accordance with the policies and procedures. Produce daily / weekly / monthly reports, as required. Evaluate supplier costs, quality and delivery on an ongoing basis. Evaluate current purchasing processes and recommend improvements. Achieve agreed objectives. Support the Operations Director to meet all Department KPIs. Support the Tenders Team compiling responses for submissions, as required. Undertake professional development and training required as part of the Graduate Training Programme. You will go through a 12-month training programme which will be tailored to your specific role. Progress will be monitored by periodic assessments. As well as having the main focus of the role on the above tasks and area of business the successful candidate will also learn all elements of the business including the following: Creative: an understanding of the creative design process, from the initial concept to the finished product, ready to present to the client. Digital media: an awareness of web development projects and digital solutions. Pre-press: introduction to electronic reproduction and related processes prior to printing. Print: basic principles of lithographic offset and digital printing with a hands-on experience of state-of-the-art press technology. Finishing: post-print finishing techniques including guillotine, folding, stitching, laminating and related bindery processes. Account management & sales: assisting Account Managers with client-facing opportunities. Production management: working with the production team to manage print projects from start to finish. Finance: overview of commercial accounting and financial management. PERSON SPECIFICATION: Degree related to Business, Procurement, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management is required. Grade 2:1 or above is desirable. Computer literate, competent user of Microsoft Office applications, with strong numeracy skills and data analysis skills.
