Case Study

Hannah Sadler

BA (Hons) Business Studies with Strategy and Entrepreneurship, Nottingham Trent University, 2007 student placement,

Media Recruitment Division

The sandwich year I opted for on my course meant that I had to complete a years' placement within a business environment, and then base my final year dissertation on the experience. My work placement at Badenoch & Clark

emphasised what I'd already learnt in my course and brought the theories I'd studied to life. Working with large multinational companies gave me a great insight into how they operate and how they're structured. The role exceeded my expectations. I didn't think I'd achieve so much in my sandwich year. I was trusted with lots more responsibility and autonomy than I first imagined. I never expected to find myself interviewing candidates, but found it really enjoyable!

I'd describe the culture at Badenoch & Clark as fun but hard working. It's an excellent working environment to learn in. I fitted in quickly and really felt part of my team. I always felt supported and had weekly catch-ups with my manager, with plenty of chance to discuss my development needs and any issues. I've now chosen to pursue a career in recruitment; my time at Badenoch & Clark was invaluable as an insight into the industry. I've stayed in regular contact since and my manager has continued to support me with the writing of my dissertation this year, which I really appreciate.
