        Train from Manchester and Wigan run at least every hour into London Euston, the direct trains taking two hours, with a longer (often cheaper) three hour option also heading to the capital. Manchester has four major train stations, Piccadilly, Victoria, Deansgate and Oxford Road, with direct trains to more or less anywhere in the United Kingdom. Wigan and Crewe will be likely changing spots for Merseyside or Lancashire and The South respectively.

        You can travel within Greater Manchester by using the Northern Rail service. There are also bus and trains routes to get just about anywhere.

        Cost of living here

        Most of the jobs and the action in the region is in Manchester itself, where a one bedroom place costs an average of £711 per calendar month or £922 pcm for two bedrooms.

        However there are lots of options across the country with direct access to Manchester and significantly cheaper renting prices. For example a two bedroom place in Wigan costs an average of £489 per month; the same costs an an average of £704pcm in Stockport or £476pcm in Rochdale. All of which have easy road and public transport routes into Manchester.

        Nightlife

        Greater Manchester is known for its nightlife. Manchester itself easily has as much variety as the capital when it comes to pub, bars and clubs. There's the iconic live music scene, bouji cocktail bars and a thriving LGBT+ scene too.

        Yet the nightlife doesn't stop at Manchester, any town in the region is going to offer you a surprisingly cheap night out, some towns will have more high quality offerings than others, but you will absolutely never be devoid of a place to get merry.

        Notable Attractions

        Manchester is the place if you want to shop till you drop, the city centre has everything, with the Arndale Centre being the major centre point. Alternatively the Trafford Centre offers the ultimate experience in retail and leisure.

        Other things to do include the Museum of Science and Industry, the National Football Museum and The Imperial War Museum North. Outdoorsy types should head towards the Peak District, and there's a plenty of beautiful canal walks to be going on. Other places definitely worth visiting are Manchester's edgy Northern Quarter, Castlefield and The Lowry.
