Sunderland is a city in the north of England which lies within the county of Tyne and Wear, 10 miles south-east of Newcastle upon Tyne. Originally expanding as a port city, Sunderland is today known as a commercial centre. Sunderland is a city of stunning heritage and landscape, with good transport links and plenty to do, this city is the perfect place for a graduate to settle in for work.


Transport links
The centre of Sunderland is just 23 miles southeast of Newcastle Airport and is easily accessible, just 40 minutes by car, or alternatively just over an hour by metro.

There is a detailed bus network running both throughout Sunderland and outside to other areas, such as Newcastle.

Sunderland City Council also runs a scheme entitled Go Smarter To Work, offering advice to individuals and companies on how to get to work and ease congestion on the roads. Sunderland itself boasts over 3,250 cycle routes in and around the city.

Being a university city, Sunderland is well-equipped for an exciting night out. The city has a vast range of bars, pubs and clubs to suit everyone’s preferences. Particularly popular is the 808 Bar and Kitchen which provides excellent food and drink, along with a range of delicious cocktails. The Sunderland Empire Theatre also hosts a range of touring shows from London’s West End, including most recently, Wicked.

Sunderland is a seafront city as well as a commercial city, and so boasts a range of attractions for all ages. Whether you fancy a day at one of Sunderland’s Beach Resorts, a walk along the River Wear, following the Riverside Sculpture Trail, or a day of shopping, this is a city suited to everyone’s tastes. Sunderland also claims links with the first president of the US and this can be further investigated in the nearby town of Washington.
