Life at MBDA for graduates

MBDA was formed in December 2001 following a merger of France, Italy and the UK's leading missile systems organisations. The restructuring of the European industry was completed with the acquisition of German Firm EASDA/LFK in March 2006, cementing MBDA's position as an industry-leader within the defence sector.

Our combined experience of over 50 years provides us with the capability of designing, developing and producing missile systems to meet the operational requirements of the three armed forces - land, sea and air.

MBDA offers graduate programmes in four areas:

  • Engineering Graduate Programme
  • Commercial Graduate Programme
  • Finance Graduate Programme
  • Procurement Graduate Programme

Our company

Prior to joining you will be allocated a 'buddy' who will provide you with informal advice and guidance.

On commencing employment you will attend a comprehensive 3-day induction event that explains the full scope of what we do, and allows you the opportunity to interact with your fellow new-starters.

Throughout the duration of your programme you will be offered a trained Mentor will offer support and provide information about MBDA, helping you build your skills and plan your career development for the future.

Together with significant on-the-job training you will also undertake a range of personal development activities promoting teamwork, communication, presentation and leadership skills.

In order to develop their presentation and mentoring skills, all graduates will be encouraged to participate in promoting science and engineering in schools and universities. This will also be beneficial for chartership logbooks if graduates are working towards a professional qualification.

All graduates have access to Knowledge Points. These are dedicated learning environments where employees can access approximately 3,000 online training courses. The facilities provide a virtual platform and offer training on a variety of topics, such as languages, business and professional development.

MBDA has three Knowledge Point facilities on site - one in Stevenage, one in Bristol and one in Lostock. Access to the Knowledge Points is booked through Facilities and graduate trainees are encouraged to make use of them to support their development.

  • Annual leave - Employees receive 25 days of paid annual leave per calendar year, in addition to all statutory and public holidays. This increases to 26 days after 10 years of service and 27 days after 30 years.
  • Enhanced Maternity Pay - Eligible employees are entitled to Company Maternity Pay for the first 18 weeks, paid at 100% of their average earnings, and a further 21 weeks at the standard rate of Statutory Maternity Pay (39 weeks total).
  • Salaries and Bonus payments - We offer competitive salaries and bonus schemes in relation to employee and overall business performance. Employees up to and including Level 4 are also eligible for the payment of overtime and travel time.
  • Flexible Working and Flexi-time - Our employees can choose when they work around the core hours with our flexi-time scheme, creating a great work-life balance. They are also able to accrue up to 15 days of flexi-leave per annum in addition to the 25 days + Bank Holidays of annual leave provided.
