The Royal Mencap Society is dedicated to helping adults and children with learning disabilities. The organization offers information and support services in areas such as housing, education, employment, and leisure activities in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. (Housing services are provided through the Golden Lane Housing charity.)   Mencap also runs campaigns for better treatment and opportunities for the learning disabled. Along with a group of other parents, Judy Fryd, who had a learning disabled child, formed the National Association of Parents of Backward Children in 1946, which became the Royal Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults, later shortened to Royal Mencap Society.

Your ongoing learning:

When you start, you'll go to a Welcome to the Royal Mencap Society training day. This gives an overview of what we do and helps you to understand more about learning disability. You'll also have an induction tailored to your job - this could include training days, distance learning or working with your manager.

Shape Your Future:

We're committed to your development and wellbeing. Shape Your Future is our people development programme. You'll have regular conversations with your manager about how you are doing, and the support you need, as well as time to plan your development and ongoing career plans. Our learning and development team provide a wide range of training to give you lots of opportunities to keep learning.

Following your induction, you will have plenty of opportunities to learn within your job. You will learn a lot during the day to day of your job, from your managers, colleagues and in some jobs, from the people you support. We also have a dedicated learning and development team who provide a wide range of training including management development and bespoke training for the needs of teams and the people who we support.
