At Reigate and Banstead Borough Council we have been employing Industrial Trainees for manyyears and value their contribution to the Council. As the Industrial Trainee, you will take responsibility for key reporting tasks, monitor systems and processes, experience a range of finance related tasks and take control of the recruitment process for your successor.

RBBC is a high performing Council located in south east Surrey. The Council is forward thinking and committed to improving the community. It has hosted the Olympic Torch Relay, the last stage of the Tour of Britain and has also been the site of numerous regeneration projects, such as the new £9 million Horley Leisure centre that opened in January 2012.

The council has been successful in driving down costs, and in the last 6 years have achieved significant savings of more that £10million. RBBC is committed to deliver ambitious service improvements at good value for money, whilst it continues to be financially sustainable in a time of reduced government funding.

Our Experience / Expertise:

Activities within the department include:

Financial control & governance

Budget setting & control, treasury management

Production of the published accounts and other financial information

Financial advice, contributing to various projects across the council

Risk management

Cash handling and banking services

Producing invoices and recovery of debts

Payment of suppliers, VAT accounting, receiving and paying invoices

The management and development of ICT systems needed to provide these services effectively

Career Opportunities & Training:

You will initially be based in the Finance department and will experience how a busy financial department operates on a daily basis. The skills you develop will enhance your practical understanding of material studied in your course.

We offer extensive on the job training to ensure you are equipped to contribute to our department. You will have the chance to improve your CV, after gaining experience and improving your skills in financial systems and processes, which will maximise your graduate job prospects.

Our Team/Staff:

The Finance Unit consists of approximately 21 staff who work in small teams to deliver its functions.

Our customers are the other services of the Council as well as the general public.

Your 12 month placement will earn you a salary of £14,064 with progression for good performance. RBBC employees enjoy a flexitime system with core hours everyday of 10 am until 4 pm in a working week of 36 hours.
